EUGENE OR. 2008 EMERALD EMPIRE HEMP FEST

As we've been waiting for our motor home to get repaired and outfitting ourselves for our return to life on the road , I've been going each Saturday here in Eugene OR. to the 'Saturday Market ' where I've been revisiting my youth and selling my buttons & cards.
I typically set up my little folding table next to a wonderful group of people working toward a future where they hope Hemp is more accepted & marijuana is rightfully taken off the list of illegal drugs ...they also are the people who setup and facilitate the local Hemp Fest. ....so....
A few weeks ago Dan ,who is the main facilitator and one hell of a truly nice person showed me their poster for the Hemp Fest and said it just didn't look right  ...so I told him I'd redo it for him and asked if he would trade us a booth space at the event for the poster art. He said sure thing... so we did the poster art & got to vend at our first Hemp Fest .
We had a wonderful time and sold a bunch of our buttons & cards ....which was fun and also very helpful and important to us because we need to make our living this way ,and we were not sure at all if we could still pull this sort of thing off ...

Here are a couple of pictures of Millie at our little vendors table , once again selling my button & card designs ... click-here for an old pic of her doing the same back in the late 80's

Below are some pictures of the vendors booths at the Hemp Fest ....
There was a little bit of everything for sale ... hand blown glassware ,beautiful candles , lovely hand-crafted clothes and a bunch of the typical stuff you see at every event of this type.
Events of this type are different than a juried Arts & Crafts show/festival is .... a juried show 9-out of-10 times will mostly only allow you to sell things you crafted yourself ...a non-juried show like the Hemp Fest allows its vendors to sell things made by others. This is a helpful & good thing for the people who love to go to events like these ,but don't have the time or inclination to make everything themselves.

We were busy selling our stuff ,so I didn't get to take many pictures of numerous bands of surprisingly good musicians that played this event ...  even so here's a few ...

Below you'll find some pictures of a nice purple school bus run off of veggie oil ,owned and lived in by an artistic group of Nomads out of British Columbia ( Canada )
They live in the bus & travel about to Fairs & festivals where they set up their tent and sell the very beautiful clothes they make , promote alternative fuels and also put on a very professional acrobatic/story telling show.  These good people are partially sponsored by a non-profit foundation called EatArt.org which is dedicated to promoting energy awareness through art .

We've seen this bus before quite a number of years ago but never got to meet the owner until Hemp Fest ... This is one amazing school bus conversion. It has WiFi , satellite radio ,back up camera , a tracking solar panel setup and one of the most perfect jobs of adding a second bus body for a roof raise you'll ever see.
After traveling the Hippy trails for many years Millie & I have seen a bunch of buses with VW van bodies & smaller bus's used for this application but nothing compared to this bus ....The seems where the bodies are joined are perfectly constructed .
The owner has lived on this bus for many years and does the Barter Fair circuit where he sets up his large tent and sells Flea Markety' sorts of stuff ....  He wants to run his rig off of Veggie oil , so he's looking for a diesel bus with the same wheelbase ,when he finds one he'll switch over the body's ....

These final two pictures are of another lived aboard bus ,populated by another group of artistic musician types who travel about doing their thing...

We truly enjoyed this event . Our fellow vendors were some of the nicest and friendliest people you'll ever meet and the fair-goers were a nice mellow bunch too.
If everything works out right ,we'll do next years Hemp Fest with our big crafts booth setup ... I asked Dan & his group if they would consider having me do next years poster for a booth space ...they said ,sure ...so I'm busy working on their poster design right now ....
