WE PUT TOGETHER & TEST OUR
NEW SOLAR COOKER |
We've used quite a few
Cardboard Box style Solar
ovens and our
Global
Sun Oven many
times ....and they worked
great for baking ,but they
don't fry foods well.
So for some time we've been
trying to figure out if we
wanted to make a Parabolic
Cooker or just Buy one.
Because were very busy ,but
still very dedicated to
Solar Cooking we decided to
buy a El Solito Parabolic
Solar Barbeque made in
Germany and used in over 90
countries.
We bought ours online from a
place called
SunBaked up in
Canada ...cost $375.00 plus
shipping.
The size of the Dish is a
little over 3 feet across
and the whole thing weighs
just under 20 pounds |

This is not the type
of unit you'd want
to try to haul
around in a van or
small trailer,
unless you were
serious advocates of
solar cooking like
us and would find a
way to carry it , no
matter what....but
for anyone else we
only suggest getting
a good quality
Parabolic cooker
like this if you
have the room to
spare in your cargo
bays or on your
roof.
And this is a very
good quality
Cooker....it comes
as a put together
kit ,tools included
and contains
excellent easy to
follow
instructions.(

We put ours together
in our apartment in
just under 3 hours
...below are a
series of pictures
showing some of the
construction
sequences |

Next day ,it was a
little overcast, but
even so we wanted to
give it a test....so I
put it out in the sun ,
oriented the dish so
that the focal point was
hitting the bottom of
the pan correctly,
poured some oil in the
pan and less than 10
minutes later had some
lovely fried onions
whipped up. |

We've seen these types
of Solar Cookers in
operation before and
knew ours would work
great because this is
just simple &
well-understood science
at work ,even so ..when
we saw the oil heat up
instantly we were amazed
once again at the magic
of this wonderful
cooking technique ....
Since we've gotten to
move to a relatively
sunny place compared to
our last living
situation , we'll get to
work and have some pages
on our site showing how
we do our solar
cooking...
NOTE: As far as we know
after some comprehensive
Searching ....there are
no U.S. dealers who
carry this or any other
true Parabolic style of
cooker.
After asking a bunch of
dealers why they don't
carry this style of
Solar Cooker we found
out that the reasoning
behind their choice of
inventory has nothing to
do with quality or
safety issues . This is
really just about cost &
demand....and then
there's always the issue
that many if not most
Americans , want
immediate gratification
and wouldn't want to put
something like this
together .
Because of these sales
oriented factors most
U.S. Solar Cooker
Dealers only sell the
box & Flat panel style
of cookers.
We thought about trying
to carry these lovely
cookers , but were just
a tiny home based
business and really
can't deal with more
than we do right
now....so if you want
one of these great Solar
appliances get it from
Stephen at
SunBaked
. He's a very nice
person who has a
wonderful Blog called
Cooking without Carbon
where he talks about
Solar Cooking and has
some great pictures.
